Summary: The FAA Quality Specialist reports directly to the Manager of Quality and is responsible for the operations of the Quality Assurance Department. The FAA Quality Specialist is to ensure all required inspections and service are performed in accordance with the procedures specified in Component Maintenance Manuals, company QASM & RSM, Service Bulletins and Customer Maintenance Documents and EASA Supplement. This role is directly responsible for the compliance of the company Repair Station Manual and Quality Control Manual certified by the FAA under 14C FR Part 145, EASA and all applicable CFRs. The FAA Quality Specialist ensures all administrative functions are complete and accurate including management of the Repair Station, Quality Procedures and Training requirements. This position will have direct interface with the FAA. 

Essential Responsibilities

It will be the FAA Quality Specialists responsibility to:

  • Coordinate FAA inspections as delineated in this manual.
  • Respond to any request for inspection of the repair station’s certificate.
  • Ensure inspection and maintenance records, reports, and forms are all properly executed.
  • Maintain an up-to-date file of all air carrier and commercial operator unique requirements and technical data, and Article Maintenance Manuals for manufacturers other than ITTAC, and ensure personnel follow them.
  • Submit reports of serious defects or recurring un-airworthy conditions in accordance with the procedures described in this manual.
  • Maintain all the repair station rosters by ensuring that changes in personnel or job duties are reflected on the roster within five (5) business days as required by this manual.
  • Determine that if the customer’s work scope is limited in nature, the requested maintenance or alteration can be accomplished within the applicable data despite any other damage or discrepancies noted.
  • Ensure that determinations concerning major alterations/repairs are accomplished as delineated in this manual.
  • Ensure that any work accomplished outside of the repair stations fixed location is accomplished in accordance with this manual.

Duties include but are not limited to: 

  • Continuously review the training program to ensure all the repair station’s training needs are met.
  • Ensure appropriate calibrations and checks are made on all of the tools and equipment used (including technician’s personal tools). Take steps to ensure established calibration periods are not exceeded and proper records are maintained to document compliance.
  • Ensure work performed by outside sources and incorporated in articles undergoing maintenance, preventive maintenance, or alteration in this repair station was properly performed and documented.
  • Ensure any subcontractor who may supply articles or processing, including contract maintenance function, will be approved in accordance with this manual.
  • Ensure that all revisions to this manual are coordinated with the FAA, and then distribute those revisions.
  • Administrate repair station internal audits to determine whether it has the housing facilities, equipment, material, data, and trained personnel.
  • Act as the liaison with all Local, State, Federal and EASA officials, and serve a primary contact with the FAA.
  • Secondary responsibility for Shelf Life Material, Technical Data, Scrap Material and Calibration.
  • Is in charge of the corrective action program and determine the appropriate actions to be taken when deficiencies are discovered or reported.
  • They may delegate duties and responsibilities to any qualified personnel; however, such delegation does not relieve the FAA Quality Specialist of the overall responsibility under this manual or the CFRs.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education and years of comparable experience in a 145 Repair Station
  • 5+ yeasr of relevant experience
  • Possess an Airframe and Powerplant License is preferred
  • Ability to work with the FAA is required
  • Working knowledge of internal audit systems including AS9100 and ISO9001 is required
  • Able to demonstrate root cause and corrective action process
  • Experience articulating data and compliance with all levels of an organization
  • Computer literate: Microsoft Suite
  • Lead auditor certification is preferred

The salary offered to a candidate is based several factors such as candidate experience and qualifications, location, as well as market and business considerations.

Equal Pay Act Range

The annual salary range is $90,100 to $134,700, plus benefits and incentive plans
