Position Summary

Description: Prepare parts for painting. Operate air gun to spray tanks, covers, guards, and other production parts with prepared mixed paint. Prepare and thin paint as required. Adjust volume of spray as needed to obtain proper finish. Spray paint, lacquer, or anti-rust oil, do some hand brushing as necessary. Apply special paint per customer specifications. Proper handling of toxic materials required. Apply labels to painted finished pumps according to their model number. Trouble shoot airless system; repair air gun with factory repair kit. Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Essential Responsibilities

Tasks:

  • Clean and dry parts prior to applying paint.
  • Select appropriate coatings, paints, or sprays, or prepare them by mixing substances according to formulas, using automated paint mixing equipment.
  • Hold or position spray guns to direct spray onto articles.
  • Fill hoppers, reservoirs, troughs, or pans with material used to coat, paint, or spray, using conveyors, or pails.
  • Start and stop operation of machines, using levers or buttons.
  • Determine paint flow, viscosity, and coating quality by performing visual inspections, or by using viscometers.
  • Clean up per specifications for materials used.
  • Do paint inventory periodically throughout the year.
  • Maintain appropriate pump inventory records.
  • Check room humidity and temperature before painting.
  • Verify correct routing of pumps. Report discrepancies to supervisor.
  • Follow relevant work instructions and/or SOP.
  • Install motors to pumps if required.
  • May be required to operate industrial trucks (fork trucks, lift trucks, etc.)
  • May train new employees.

  • Uses the appropriate electronic or manual system to perform the work of the job or department.
  • May use computer systems to enroll in benefits and interact with other company data systems.*

Knowledge:

  • Must learn and demonstrate proper spray paint handling per EPA requirements.
  • Learn new materials as introduced, paint handling, clean up, and MSDS requirements.
  • Reading, writing, speaking, comprehension and computer skills in the English language, typically developed through high school education or equivalent, with the ability to communicate effectively via all these modes.*
  • Mathematics- Knowledge of basic arithmetic; addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and basic algebra. Must be able to comprehend the meaning of the calculation.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing good customer services. This includes meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

Physical Abilities:

  • Visual Color Discrimination- The ability to match or detect differences between colors, including shades of color and brightness.
  • Arm-Hand Steadiness- The ability to keep your hand and arms steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.
  • Manual Dexterity- The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  • Reaction Time- The ability to quickly respond (with the hand, finger, or foot) to a signal (sound, light, picture) or to an error, when it appears.
  • Ability to perceive and interpret information through the senses of sight, hearing, smell, and touch at a level considered normal for a healthy adult. Must exhibit good balance.
  • Work is performed in a standing position for most of the day, with some bending and twisting.
  • Maximum lifting requirement is 40 lbs.; any material of greater weight must be moved using machinery.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Must wear required safety equipment such as safety shoes, safety glasses, respirator (Facial hair cannot interfere with fit of respirator.)
  • Daily exposure to dusts, fumes, metal chips, and odors from an industrial environment.

 

Supervision

 

This position does not supervise others.

During initial training, the incumbent will require close supervision, with supervisor contact several times per day.  After demonstration of sustained full comprehension of work instructions, safety procedures, and general department knowledge, daily contact with supervision may reduce to once or twice per day.

 

Training, Certificates or Licenses

  • See ISO Skill review.
  • Must learn and demonstrate proper spray paint handling per Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) guidelines, in addition to Skills Matrix learning topics maintained for ISO compliance. Must also comply with required Quality and Safety training.

Education Required:

  • Equivalent to high school education.

 

Experience Required:

  • 6+ months of industrial spray painting preferred.
  • Knowledge of paint such as gained in a retail paint department preferred.
  • Past painting experience such as in construction or other manual labor preferred.

Equal Pay Act Range

Hourly rate $25.13 to $26.34 plus benefits
