Position Summary

As a Plating Lab Supervisor, you will oversee daily operations within the plating laboratory at our El Cajon, CA location. You will be responsible for ensuring high-quality results, process efficiency, compliance with industry standards, and support of NADCAP accreditation. You will lead a team of technicians, manage chemical processes, plating solution analysis, wastewater control, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee Plating Lab operations, ensuring quality, efficiency and regulatory compliance.
  • Supervise and train personnel, fostering a culture of excellence and safety.
  • Develop and optimize plating processes for improved performance and cost savings.
  • Conduct chemical analysis, troubleshooting, and maintenance of plating baths.
  • Record all concentrations and additions.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and cleanliness.
  • Perform adhesion, solderability, purity and hardness testing.
  • Perform XRF analysis to measure plating thickness and composition, ensuring process accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, and quality teams to meet company goals.
  • Implement and maintain 5S practices.
  • Write all procedures and instructions necessary for the operation of processes, NADCAP procedures, checklists, maintenance, and safety.
  • Support for performing failure analysis and root cause investigation when product or process problems occur.
  • Responsibilities may include any of the following plating finishes: chem film, passivation, electroless and electrolytic nickel, gold, copper,
  • tin, tin/tead, cleaning procedures, and stripping process.
  • Able to teach and train all co-workers and operators all aspects of the plating process.
  • Support to the Production Director in different activities related to production.
  • Support to operations in daily production activities, root cause analysis, identification of opportunities, etc.
  • Perform wet (bench) chemistry, titrations, including use of analytical balances, pH meters, volumetric glassware.
  • Read and understand approved standard methods and analytical procedures and aerospace, military, and other specifications.
  • Carry out technical and chemical projects using analytical practices and principles in the Plating Department.
  • Implement and improve processing and analysis methods to support product quality and quantity goals and objectives.
  • Able to read, write, edit and review work instructions and forms.
  • Calculate and control solution chemistry adjustments.
  • Ability to resolve electroplating process deviations caused by chemical variations and overcome the impact on product performance.
  • Skill in using Microsoft Office products and ability to learn other software programs related to the position.
  • Help maintain and calibrate all equipment, meters and devices used by the Plating Department.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5 years minimum of experience in plating, surface finishing, or electrochemical processes.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing lab personnel.
  • Knowledge of chemical analysis, process control, and industry regulations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Able to read, write, edit and review work instructions and forms.
  • Able to calculate and control solution chemistry adjustments.
  • Ability to resolve electroplating process deviations caused by chemical variations and overcome the impact on product performance.
  • Skill in using Microsoft Office products and ability to learn other software programs related to the position.
  • Help maintain and calibrate all equipment, meters and devices used by the Plating Department

The salary offered to a candidate is based several factors such as candidate experience and qualifications, location, as well as market and business considerations.

Equal Pay Act Range

The total compensation for this role is $104,200 - $155,600 USD annually plus a benefits plan
