Position Summary

Under the direction of the Director IP ESH, for the Lancaster plant, develops and implements safety program(s) to prevent or correct unsafe environmental working conditions and provides technical assistance to plant management for environmental and occupational health and safety-related issues and processes.  Ensures that all IP valve plants operate within acceptable regulatory / ITT parameters.

 

Essential Responsibilities

IP valve / Lancaster contact with regulatory agencies in matters relating to environment, health and safety affairs.  Serves as designated facility emergency environmental coordinator and keeps plant emergency contingency plans current.  Maintains rapport with Lancaster County Emergency Management Agency administrator.

 

Monitors environmental and safety regulations and legislation and advises management of requirements.  Prepares and submits all reports required by regulations, statutes or ITT policies.

 

Conducts or coordinates EHS training to engage and educate workers about safety policies, laws, and practices.  Develops employee training programs, emergency contingency plans, written safety communications plans and policies and procedures.

 

Conducts or coordinates air quality tests for presence of harmful gases, vapors and particulates. 

 

Investigates industrial accidents utilizing the ITT Root Cause Analysis Program to minimize recurrence and reviews accident reports prepared by supervisors.

 

Serves as Lancaster team leader during corporate ESH audits.  Prepares IP valve units for upcoming, corporate ESH audits.  Provides support to all ITT Industries, IP valve facilities.  Visits each IP valve facility at least once each year to ensure ESH program is functioning properly and identify/correct areas needing improvement.

 

Develops programs for managing the plant's hazardous materials and wastes.  Conducts periodic site inspections of non-hazardous waste disposal facilities.  Initiates waste minimization activities.

 

Responsible for the ISO 14001 EMS.  Coordinates and participates in ongoing ISO 14001 internal audit process to ensure ongoing compliance. Serves as advisor for other IBG valve units wishing to obtain ISO 14001 certification.

 

Responsible for the ongoing maintenance of the Lancaster Site OSHA Voluntary Protection Program.

 

Assures that all contractors, etc. are qualified before being permitted to provide service to the plant relative to maintenance, general contracting or environmental and safety matters

 

Leads, develops and implements all activities, in conjunction with the Plant Safety Team, relative to area safety audits, confined space work procedures, machine guarding standards, inspection of new or refurbished equipment, personal protection equipment programs, and other topics as necessary.  Tours plant to inspect fire and safety equipment, machinery, and facilities to identify and correct potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.

 

Administers workers compensation program, monitors workers compensation loss runs and works closely with insurance carrier to control losses.  Conducts accident investigations to ensure that all steps are being taken to reduce the number of OSHA recordable incidents.  Recommends to management solutions that will prevent recurring accidents.

 

Examine plans and specifications for new machinery or equipment to determine if all safety precautions have been included.  Reviews plans for manufacturing process capital expenditures and operating changes for compliance with environmental and safety requirements.

 

Participates as needed in the due diligence process for potential acquisitions and divestitures and as a member of the ESH integration process.

 

Assists corporate with special projects when possible.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university in Environmental Engineering or BSME/BSIE or related field, with six to eight years experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in environmental, health, safety.  Must be well versed in current government regulations pertaining to environment, health and safety.  Personal computer skills are essential.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.  Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

COMPUTING SKILLS

Ability to effectively utilize word processing software and spreadsheets and to navigate and use other custom applications software in a MS Windows environment.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid Driver's License, CSP preferred

The salary offered to a candidate is based several factors such as candidate experience and qualifications, location, as well as market and business considerations.
