We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Swiss Screw Setup Machinist to join our advanced manufacturing team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience setting up, operating, and optimizing Swiss-style CNC screw machines to produce precision components used in RF connectors and other high-performance applications for the aerospace and defense industries.
This role requires expertise in Swiss machining processes, simultaneous milling and turning operations, tool path optimization, and maintaining tight tolerances on complex geometries. The successful candidate will possess strong problem-solving skills, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to producing high-quality components in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Programming experience is highly desirable.
Set up and operate Citizen L12, L20, and K16 Swiss CNC machines to manufacture precision components.
Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, CAD models, setup sheets, and work instructions to ensure part conformance.
Select, install tooling, machine offsets, required for each operation.
Perform first article, in-process, and final inspections using precision measurement equipment including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, gauge pins, thread gauges, optical comparators, and vision measurement systems.
Machine a variety of materials including stainless steel, titanium, nickel alloys, and other aerospace-grade metals.
Maintain tight dimensional tolerances (i.e. +-.0002) and surface finish requirements on complex turned and milled features.
Monitor machine performance and make process adjustments as needed to maintain quality and productivity.
Troubleshoot setup, tooling, programming, and machining issues to minimize downtime and scrap.
Collaborate with programmers, manufacturing engineers, and quality personnel to improve processes and optimize machining strategies.
Document setup procedures, tooling lists, and best practices to support repeatability and continuous improvement.
Perform routine machine maintenance and promptly report equipment issues.
Mentor and support junior machinists and machine operators as needed.
Participate in Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, 6S, and other continuous improvement initiatives.
Follow all company safety policies and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
Perform other duties as assigned by management
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification in CNC machining or manufacturing technology preferred.
Minimum of 10 years of precision machining experience, including at least 6 years of Swiss screw machine setup and operation experience.
Strong understanding of Swiss-style CNC machining principles, including guide bushings, sub-spindles, live tooling, work offsets, and multi-axis machining.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T requirements.
Experience machining high-performance materials such as stainless steel, titanium, Inconel, and other aerospace-grade alloys.
Proficiency in the use of precision measuring and inspection equipment.
Working knowledge of CNC programming, including G-code and conversational programming; experience with CAD/CAM systems is a plus.
Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to optimize cycle times, improve process capability, and reduce tool wear.
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing defect-free components.
Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a production environment.
Ability to prioritize work and meet production schedules and deadlines.
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, perform repetitive tasks, and stand for extended periods.
Previous experience in aerospace, defense, RF connector manufacturing, or other highly regulated industries is strongly preferred.
